Can Someone "Skim" My NFC Card? Debunking Common Myths

Can Someone "Skim" My NFC Card? Debunking Common Myths

You may have seen viral videos of people using card readers to "steal" credit card info from people's pockets on the subway. This has led to a valid concern: "If I have a TapMo Card in my wallet, can someone steal my contact info or hack my phone just by walking past me?"

The short answer is: No. Let's explain why.

Passive vs. Active Data

Credit cards contain sensitive financial keys. TapMo Cards, however, are "Passive NFC tags." They do not broadcast a signal constantly. They only wake up when a powered device (like a smartphone) is placed directly against them (within 2 inches).

What’s Actually on the Card?

Your TapMo Card does not store your passwords, bank details, or private photos. It stores a single URL link (like tapmo.com/yourname). Even if someone did manage to scan your pocket (which is incredibly difficult without you noticing), all they would get is a link to your public business card—the same info you hand out freely to strangers anyway!

The "Payment" Confusion

People confuse NFC business cards with NFC payments. Your TapMo Card cannot be used to pay for things, and it cannot be used to withdraw money from your account. It is purely a data-sharing tool.

Rest easy. Your TapMo Card is designed for sharing, not spending. It’s safe to carry anywhere.
